Subaru Forester Year Coverage (1997-2025)

Our Subaru Forester roof bar range covers vehicles produced from 1997 through to 2025. The exact kit required can vary depending on body style (Estate, Hatchback, Saloon, SUV, or Crossover) and the roof configuration of your specific variant. Enter your vehicle registration plate above for a precise, instant match - or use our manual vehicle selector to choose your year and body type.

Identifying Your Subaru Forester Roof Type

Before selecting a roof bar kit for your Subaru Forester, it is important to identify which roof type your vehicle has. Each roof configuration requires a different foot pack design. The Subaru Forester may feature one of the following roof types:

• Raised Roof Rails - Rails that stand proud of the roof surface with a visible gap underneath. These use a raised-rail foot pack that slides over and clamps down on each rail.
• Flush / Integrated Roof Rails - Rails set flush (level) with the roof surface. These require a flush-rail foot pack that hooks under or clamps onto the rail profile.
• Bare Roof (No Rails) - No roof rails are fitted. The foot pack uses a door-frame clamp system, positioned precisely using a vehicle-specific fitting kit supplied with the bars.
• Fixed Mounting Points - Some Subaru Forester variants have factory-installed threaded anchor points in the roof. A bolt-through foot pack provides the most secure, rattle-free installation possible.

Not sure which roof type you have? Enter your registration plate into our vehicle lookup tool at the top of the page - it will identify your roof type automatically and show only the kits that are confirmed to fit.

What Is Included in a Subaru Forester Roof Bar Kit?

Every Subaru Forester roof bar kit from Bars4Cars is a complete, all-in-one package. A single purchase includes everything you need:

• Two roof bars (WingBar, SquareBar, or Summit / Menabo equivalent, depending on the system you choose)
• Foot pack (clamps and feet, matched to your specific Subaru Forester roof type and selected vehicle variant)
• Vehicle-specific fitting kit (precisely engineered for the Subaru Forester (1997-2025) - positions the feet correctly on your exact model)
• T-slot key lock (supplied with all Thule kits as standard) or equivalent security fastener
• Manufacturer fitting instructions - included with every kit, no specialist tools required

There are no additional parts to source and nothing extra to order. Simply find your Subaru Forester in our vehicle finder, add the complete kit to your basket, and it will be dispatched ready to install straight from the box.

Load Capacity and Roof Bar Specifications for the Subaru Forester

Two separate load limits apply when using roof bars: the roof bar rated capacity and the Subaru Forester manufacturer's maximum roof load. You must always observe the lower of the two figures. Exceeding either limit is unsafe and may also invalidate your vehicle's warranty or insurance cover.

• Thule WingBar Edge, WingBar Evo, and SquareBar Evo: up to 75 kg combined roof load
• Summit roof bars: up to 75 kg combined roof load
• Menabo roof bars: up to 50-75 kg combined (varies by specific model)
• Always check your Subaru Forester owner's manual for the manufacturer's stated roof load limit (typically 75-100 kg depending on variant)

How to Fit Roof Bars to Your Subaru Forester

Fitting roof bars to a Subaru Forester is a straightforward task that typically takes 15 to 30 minutes with no specialist tools or previous experience required. All Thule, Summit, and Menabo kits from Bars4Cars include clear, step-by-step fitting instructions. No drilling, no permanent modification, and no damage to your vehicle's roof or paintwork. Here is a general overview of the process:

• Step 1: Identify your Subaru Forester's roof type from the options described above, or check the fitting instructions included with your kit.
• Step 2: Position the vehicle-specific fitting kit components at the correct fixing locations as shown in the instructions.
• Step 3: Attach the foot pack components to the fitting kit.
• Step 4: Slide or click the roof bars into the feet and ensure they are seated correctly.
• Step 5: Tighten all fasteners to the manufacturer's specified torque and lock in place with the provided key.
• Step 6: Carry out a full check of all fixings before loading any cargo. Re-check after the first 50 miles.

Frequently Asked Questions - Subaru Forester Roof Bars

What roof bars fit a Subaru Forester?

Bars4Cars stocks complete, vehicle-specific roof bar kits from Thule (WingBar Edge, WingBar Evo, SquareBar Evo), Summit, and Menabo that are engineered to fit the Subaru Forester (1997-2025). Enter your vehicle registration plate or use our manual vehicle selector to view every kit that is confirmed to fit your exact year and variant. If your vehicle does not appear, contact us - we may be able to source a kit for you.

Do all variants of the Subaru Forester take the same roof bars?

Not always. Fitment can vary between body styles (such as Estate, Hatchback, Saloon, SUV, or Crossover) and between different roof configurations (raised rails, flush rails, bare roof, or fixed mounting points). Different variants of the Subaru Forester produced in the same year can require different kits. We strongly recommend using our registration lookup for a precise confirmation, or contact our team if you have any doubt.

How much weight can I carry on Subaru Forester roof bars?

Thule and Summit roof bars for the Subaru Forester are rated to carry up to 75 kg combined load. However, you must also check your Subaru Forester owner's manual for the vehicle manufacturer's roof load limit and never exceed the lower of the two figures. A typical Subaru Forester manufacturer roof load limit is between 75 kg and 100 kg depending on the specific variant and model year.

Can I use a roof box with my Subaru Forester roof bars?

Yes. Once your roof bars are fitted to your Subaru Forester, they are compatible with Thule T-bolt roof boxes and a wide range of accessories including bike racks, ski and snowboard carriers, kayak mounts, surfboard carriers, and roof tents - provided the total combined weight stays within the rated capacity. All Thule WingBar and SquareBar systems use the T-bolt slot, giving you access to the full Thule accessory range.

Will fitting roof bars damage my Subaru Forester?

No. All roof bar kits supplied by Bars4Cars are fully reversible and require no drilling, adhesive, or permanent modification of any kind to your Subaru Forester. Kits are designed to attach to the existing roof architecture (rails, door frames, or factory mounting points) without marking or damaging the vehicle. Removal is as straightforward as fitting.

How do I know which year my Subaru Forester is?

The easiest way is to enter your vehicle registration plate into our lookup tool at the top of the page - it will identify the year, body style, and roof type automatically, and display only the roof bar kits that are guaranteed to fit your exact vehicle. Alternatively, your vehicle's year of manufacture is shown on the V5C logbook, the windscreen, or can be confirmed through any DVLA check.
